There are thousands of glazing options in the glass garage door industry so naturally glass is one of the hardest aspects to specify for architects and designers. Subject to building codes, customer needs, and environmental factors glass garage door glazing can be a tricky road to navigate without the right guide.
DS Glazing: DS glazing is also called float glass and DSB glass in the garage door industry. DS glazing is a simple single pane window glass and is not tempered for safety. DS glass is easily breakable and will shatter upon sufficient impact.
Tempered Glass: Tempered glass is considered a safety glass due to the higher impact pressure needed to break the unit as well as its breakage characteristics. Tempered glass will not shatter like DS glass, instead it will produce bead like fragments rather than shards.
Laminated Glass: Laminated glass is also considered a safety glass and contains at least (2) glass panes bonded together with an interlayer. Laminated glazing is often used as hurricane glass and for sound insulation.
Acrylic Glazing: A transparent thermoplastic alternative to polycarbonate glazing. It is light weight and shatter resistant, however acrylics are more prone to scratching than conventional glass.
Polycarbonate Glazing: Polycarbonate glazing is a light weight and break resistant thermoplastic often used in carwash sectional doors. Polycarbonates are available as single wall, 2-wall, 3-wall, 5-wall, or 7-wall units in clear, frosted, dappled, or colored versions. Unique thermal and impact properties are also available in select polycarbonate options.
Insulated Glass: Insulated glass units available in Arm-R-Lite models consist of (2) glass panes separated by spacer. Insulated units can be manipulated and configured to meet specific thermal values if needed. Arm-R-Lite frames support 7/16”, 5/8” and 1” insulated glass units.
Glass garage doors by Arm-R-Lite also support custom glazing options for unique designs and stunning appeal. Custom glazing includes frosted, tinted, colored, mirrored, wired, and fritted glass in units up to 1” IGU.
Spandrel glazing, patterned rolled, low e, low iron, and UV blocker glass and coatings are also available on Arm-R-Lite glass garage doors. If an architect or designer can imagine it, Arm-R-Lite will strive to exceed their expectations.
